Jack Saunders, from Cohort 1, spent some time at the University of Melbourne and writes about his experience here:
“This autumn I got the chance to spend three months at the University of Melbourne working with Professor Chris Manzie’s research group.
The focus of my research consisted of leveraging physical priors, in the form of approximate system dynamics, to design a curriculum to train model-free reinforcement learning policies for flow assisted vehicles. Specifically, for high-altitude platforms where wind-currents play a pivotal role in the performance of navigating the atmosphere.
I was able to collaborate with brilliant researchers within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department who offered a broad range of insights on the topic of optimal control and AI. All of which left me very encouraged about the final stages of my PhD.
The experience of collaborating on new research while networking and making new friends under the Australian sun was truly unforgettable. I would highly recommend it to anyone.”
