ART-AI welcomed a large and engaged audience for its latest seminar, From tacit to explicit: The art and science of accountable human-machine teaming, presented by Kris Lee, founder and CEO of ArtSci AI and a former CIA analytic methodologist.
The online seminar attracted around 85 attendees, making it one of ART-AI’s best-attended seminars to date and bringing together participants from the University of Bath and beyond.
Drawing on 25 years of experience in intelligence analysis, Kris explored how the knowledge and expertise people develop throughout their careers can be made more explicit and used to support effective and accountable AI systems.

A key theme was the importance of keeping human expertise at the heart of AI adoption. Kris discussed how organisations can break complex knowledge-based work into clearer processes, allowing AI to support elements of that work while maintaining appropriate checks, standards and human oversight.
The seminar prompted a lively discussion covering AI governance and risk, building lasting AI capability within organisations, and the importance of investing in people alongside technology. Kris also encouraged those beginning to use AI to start with small, familiar tasks, learn through experimentation and understand the rules governing the use of data within their organisation.
Audience feedback following the seminar was extremely positive, with participants describing the session as “very informative”, a “fascinating discussion” and a “great seminar”.
A huge thank you to Kris Lee for sharing his experience and insights, and to Charles Larkin for hosting the seminar and leading such an engaging discussion.
