Madalin Facino

Empathetic, Interpretable, and Explainable AI

Project Summary

Maddie is a full-time ART-AI PhD candidate affiliated with the REVEAL Center at the University of Bath, where she investigates the role of empathetic artificial intelligence in high-stakes team decision-making. Drawing on extensive experience in human‐subject trials, experimental laboratory methods, and full-stack software development, Maddie designs and implements affect-aware AI prototypes to enhance collaboration, trust calibration, and decision accuracy in sonar operations. By combining rigorous psychological theory with practical programming expertise, her work seeks to elucidate the mechanisms by which empathy-driven AI models can strengthen team dynamics under pressure and inform the broader deployment of human-centred AI across mission-critical domains.
