Research and networking workshop
This invitation-only event, co-hosted by ART-AI and the Department of Political Science at the University of Bergen, brings together 25 international scholars working on AI technologies and public policy.
AI technologies (AITs) cross paths with public policy concerns at local, national and global scales:
- implications of their design for social and cultural norms, values and legal requirements
- importance of their design, development, use and disposal for global political economy and natural resource use
- challenges posed by their design, development and use, for climate change and net-zero agendas
- use of public resources to advance research, development and skills in AITs
- promotion of AIT development to support economic growth and national security agendas
- increasing, but variable, use of AITs in the public domain (policing, education, health, migration, housing, defence)
- increasing and variable use of AITs in areas with public policy significance and bodies of law (employment, finance, care)
- demands for regulating AITs in general and in specific sectors or for particular groups
At this event, colleagues will discuss their work across these issues and their contributions to the forthcoming Handbook on AI and Public Policy, co-edited by Regine Paul, Emma Carmel and Jennifer Cobbe. They will complete the event with discussions on further collaboration; the launch of a new AI, public policy and governance network; and funding opportunities.
This is a 2 day event taking place on the 12th & 13th January 2023 at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution. For more information about the event, please e-mail [email protected].
