Title

Reflections on what happens when ethics meets admin, budgets and power

Abstract

Over the last few years, governments, companies, membership organisations and academics have been in a flurry writing ethical guidelines and principles. They’ve been doing this for artificial intelligence, machine learning, data (and data science) as well as technology more broadly. While the ethical principles and frameworks have been a helpful start, they need to be put into action if we are to have any hope of making an impact. Using a series of case studies from her time implementing ethical frameworks and running tech ethics literacy training, digital sociologist Lisa Talia Moretti will share insights on the challenges of implementing ethical frameworks, what works and what doesn’t.
