Riding the next wave of digital innovation

Register now to hear from global technology pioneer Dr Jacky Wright, exploring how we can build a digital future that is responsible, inclusive, and accessible to all. This will take place at 6pm on May 20th 2026 at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution.

Marking the University of Bath’s 60th Anniversary, this second Adelard event welcomes one of the world’s most influential digital leaders, Dr Jacky Wright, to Bath.

When: Wednesday, May 20  •  6 PM – 7:30 PM

Overview

Taking place as part of Bath Digital Festival, in an exclusive event at BRLSI, Jacky will reflect on key moments in technological change over the six decades since the University was founded, and consider what those years can teach us about the world we are shaping today.

A global pioneer in digital leadership and a champion for inclusion, Jacky Wright has driven transformation across some of the world’s most influential organisations.
In conversation with Professor Rachid Hourizi MBE, Director of the University of Bath’s national Institute of Coding, they will revisit key moments in the digital era, culminating in today’s AI revolution, and explore the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Drawing on her own career, Jacky will explore how the role of technology and technologists has evolved – moving from supporting businesses to actively shaping strategy, culture, and innovation. This perspective opens a wider look at the forces now reshaping work, society, and global industries.

The discussion will also explore what it means to succeed in an AI-supported world: which skills, mindsets, and capabilities matter most, and how we prepare students, local companies, and professionals for continual technological change. It will also examine the responsibilities universities carry as creators of innovation, educators, and gateways to opportunity.

At the heart of the conversation is a shared question: how do we ensure technological progress creates opportunity for everyone? From developing AI systems that work for society to widening access to digital careers, the session will take a bold, positive, and inclusive look at our digital futures.

This event is part of the 2026 Adelard series, inspired by the legacy of Adelard of Bath, and delivered in partnership with Bath Digital Festival, Bath Festivals, and the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI).
